Entry: In which ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE!! *papers fly* Sunday, April 04, 2004

Listening to: Bratja - Michiru Oshima, Full Metal Alchemist OST

The entire OST is worth downloading/buying for this song ALONE. I'll try to upload it so all of you can experience its splendour. If you can't appreciate it, well, screw you.

Lessee what've I got this week:

- Physiology lab worksheet - Monday
- Microbiology tutorial - Tuesday
- Physiology mini test - Thursday
- Pathology test (nobody knows) - Friday
- Molecular Biology Essay - 1/3rd done, Friday due

I don't know if I'm screwed or not, somebody help me figure this out. Either way, massive workloads usually signify the coming of a holiday, but it's not like I can rest then. Why can't these people give a PROPER holiday I'll never know.

Oh wait, I get those in December for FOUR MONTHS. During that time I have such a long holiday my brains have sproutlings growing out from my hair, thus requiring me to...do stuff. Stuff. Yeah. Nothing you need to get suspicious about, move along.

And since I went out and bought games today, let this entry be:

*pulls down gaudy title screen, full of flashing neon colours and tinny gameshow music*

"PS2 IMPORT GAMES IMPRESSION SEGMENT!"

(I hope you didn't get seizures from all that flashing lights...)

First up: ANGEL'S FEATHER!
Time played: 15 minutes or so.

Yes, the famed yaoi adventure/rpg game has come to the PS2, but with a twist: NO YAOI. That's right people, a game famous for having Yamaguchi Kappei and Midorikawa Hikaru breathe *really heavily* is now devoid of all that the game is notorious for! I want to shoot somebody now, any volunteers?

I'm pretty sure there's a word for this, but I can't seem to remember. Ah well.

The CG opening is nice stuff, with funky techno music and pre-requisite character introduction. Then the menu has a nice piano ditty. Then we have a story where the only female kicks the bucket, her husband sprouts wings and dies under the hands of Faceless Bad Guy and her sons grow up and go to school. The one voiced by Yamaguchi Kappei meets a braided boy who looks like a girl (as all yaoi games have), and then I got bored of all the incoherent yammering and switched it off.

Verdict: There's no sex, and I have to play an RPG in Japanese. I want my money back. *points gun at publishers* At least Oujisama Lvl. 1 gave an option!

Next up: SAIYUKI RELOAD COMMUNICATION RPG!
Time played: 30 minutes or so, because I didn't figure out where to save till later.

Woot, it's the Saiyuki Reload PS2 game! *fangirlish scream*

So I start it up, and I see...a name entry screen. Now, why would there be a name entry screen?

Ohhhhhhhhh I see...I am the GODDAMN MARY SUE.

(For those who don't know, a "Mary Sue" is defined as basically any original character in fan-made fiction of any show/book/game/music bands [I wish I was kidding] that is *so perfect* in everything that *everybody* loves her. Really sickening.)

So I'm the rebellious stubborn female chara who leaves home in a huff, stumbles upon some youkai, pass out, and see our dashing Sanzo-ikkou all ready to save the day and take her home after solving her mystery! AND like some freak dating sim, I get to raise my relationship gauge with them! Whoo!

See, at certain points, dialogue windows flash, and then you press the square button to pick a conversation choice. Of course, your choice will lower or raise the relationship gauge, although I've no idea what bearing it has on the outcome. I'm hoping if I whack everyone's gauge to negative, they'll all accuse me of being a youkai and shoot me and end the misery, but I doubt it's going to happen since the Ikkou are the good chivalrous men and all. Minekura's pretty idealistic isn't she...?

Then there's the battles. The charas have an action gauge (another one!) where you arrange their actions on the gauge. Different actions take different amounts of time, so you arrange as appropriate. Also, the enemies' turns are also shown on the gauge, so you have to make sure you kill them off before they kill you, or use Sanzo's actions to push their actions all the way to the end so you can kill them off before they can even touch you. Also, this game has no MP, so you can have Hakkai blasting and healing like nobody's business, although it's disappointing that Sanzo doesn't use his Maten Kyoumon at all.

Verdict: I'll tough this out when I have the time...looks short. But oh gawd, the MARY SUE...oh the indignity!! X__x

On a side note, the game has the Reload intro sans credits, and you can watch the intro 3 times if you want to hear each chara say "Saiyuki Reload!" at the main menu screen. Also, saving enables you to look at CG pics from the game as well as replay battles, though why would you want to do that eludes me. While the production values and extras are ok, I'd rather unlock cast interviews or outtakes than this crap, honestly.

And this ends...THE PS2 IMPORT GAMES IMPRESSION SEGMENT!! *cue ending junk music*

And now...to break Hell loose...ack, my papers are flying! Bad poltergeist, BAD! *whap*
